The Deloitte Way.....!!!!!!!!

(I am sharing the pre-hiring experience of Deloitte in which 14 students from our college including me are selected for the final interview which is scheduled later on………I will not get into nitty-gritty of the timings and everything…..to keep it short I will just narrate the process and how was the level as per my point of view…………)

The mornings were not usual today, because adrenaline was a bit on a faster side as the first company for the recruitment was coming. So, finally and inevitably, Deloitte today visited the campus for its pre-hiring process and everyone was very excited and proportionately nervous too because of the stringent process they had announced………so let’s see how it went out actually…….

The first test was BELIT test which was undecipherable by its name but originally it was listening and Reading Comprehension test which comprises of 16 questions each to be completed in 15 minutes apiece. It was primarily focused on listening abilities where a picture was given and after listening the options  we were asked to select the one which describes the picture best…….

A conversation was being played in which inference was needed to be drawn out……….the toughness level was average but the accent was different from what we use in common day language and hence a bit of problems can be faced who hadn’t listened to it before………concentrated listening will help a candidate with a bit of shrewdness in selecting an option and patience……..

The result of the successful candidates was declared in the shorter time…..cutoff was 456 out of 787 and those who were close to the score re-appeared for the test so that they can improvise the score and clear the initial stage………50 selections out of 93 students…………

In the next round, they took business proficiency test which was supposed to be the last test, but a googly was thrown by HR and we moved again to lab for the test………It was a 75 minutes test comprising 75 questions based on Accounts, Logical Reasoning and MS-Excel (30 questions for first two and 15 for last one)………..

Accounting was a bit tricky but was totally based on basics of accounting which plays a vital role in whole process…..Bank Reconciliation Statement was to be prepared out of the given figures, Working Capital determination, Royalties Payble A/C balance transferred to which account, Backflush Costing, Questions based on basic principles of accounting and costing………….so do mug-up basic accounting terminologies and principles…………….

Logical Reasoning was fairly on an easier side and MS-Excel was totally based on shortcuts and basic definitions………best part is no negative marking but caveat is sectional cut-off………..

Results were declared once again in a short-time (only 3 students were eliminated) and it started the last round called as VERSANT TEST………..It was based on communication skills and once again listening abilities was the prime focus…………

A sheet was given in which there were certain sentences that we had to read out according to the instructions given by the speaker on the other side……after that, next section was listening where we had to repeat the sentence that we listened……the sentences are in different accents and if you are not familiar you may face problems……..i didn’t faced so much……though I also did a bit……..

In next section, basic questions were asked which needs to be answered in one word……those were very common-sensual questions such as basement is above the floor or below the floor, To whom you would go if you are ill, doctor or salesmen etc……..questions were simple……but once again……….LISTENING MATTERS……..!!!!!!!!!!

Next section was jumbled sentences were being read out from the other side and we had to read it in a proper manner…..e.g They read “ Going to be, a, Pratik, is, manager…………..

The correct answer is: Pratik is going to be a manager” So here listening combines with Grammer……..

Last but not the least is open questions………3 questions were asked on which we expressed our opinions within 20 seconds apiece……questions can be… What you prefer, mobile or letter? What are the characteristics of a good family according to you…….

Remember, in this section, content doesn’t matter…..what matters is how you speak, clearly, coherently and concisely…..that’s it……. 25 selections out of 47…….

And within half an hour, officially it was declared that few of us have cleared the first hurdle…….THE ACTUAL PREPARATIONS BEGIN NOW……………..!!!!!

Believe in yourself, stay positive and have patience……..rest whatever you can do to improve your technical and other relevant skills, it will prove beneficial in the long-run………

Because in long-run, stamina matters……!!!!!!!!!

A Lord from a Prince........!!!!!!!!!!!

I always think………..

“Why Lord Ram went to exile for 15 years although having abundant wealth and all the comforts of life…?”

Recently, I have met several people who reject an opportunity because they are not willing to step out of their comfort zones………….and an opportunity missed is an opportunity denied……..!!!!!!!

As an individual, we create our own cocoons and resides in that self-created world where if someone tries to tinker with the setup, we lose our own mental setup and converts that self-created world into self-created mess…………

and in the process…….success evades us……!!!!!!!!!!

We create relationships which flow with the so called conventions of the world……….choosing people who neither question our identity nor let us as see the real mirror……..and if someone have that gumption………he is being slowly discarded citing him as a cynic……..and in the process…….true relationships evades us……….!!!!!!!!

Well, in this era where everyone wants to have their existence in their own comfort-zones, living in a world where their abilities can’t be questioned, having people around them who keep them happy, but don’t give honest feedbacks,  is a slow poison which sooner or later proves dreadful…………..!!!!!!!

Well, I got my answer……….

“To become a Lord from a Prince, he stepped out of his comfort-zone and exhibited himself as a model of an ideal man…………”

Someone has rightly said……….

“ KHILTAA TO KAMAL BHI KEECHAD ME HAI……….THODA SA APNE AAP KO UTHA KE TO DEKHO……..”

Conversations with god........!!!!!!!

One night I met god in my dream………..and that meeting started out with certain queries of myself……..

I asked: You know Lord…!!! In the year 2012, I tried to persuade you by offering a bribe of Rs.500 in lieu of my result in which I scored less than 60% which could have led me to huge financial losses…….. But sadly the result was the same……..it was 58%.......

God replied: Yes, my son…….i remember that…….but that was to teach you the seriousness that you were lacking in studies and after that setback you came back really well……….!!!!!!!

Because I was trying to teach you how to remain grounded and not over- confident………!!!!!!

I again asked: I was bowling well, probably the best of my career, in a selection match……….yet I wasn't selected……..Why so………??

God replied: To teach you the importance of hard-work……..if that would not have happened……..you might not have been a cricketer that you were after that failure………you again came back really well…….!!!!!

And the almighty disappeared stating following lines……………

“Remember, it’s my prerogative (right exclusive to certain people) to decide the syllabus of your life……….it depends on you how much you learn from that………..”

When I look back at those failures of my life………..that actually happened for the sake of me………hence never consider a failure as a setback……………because

Someone has very nicely written:

“ Ruk jaana nahi tu kahi haar ke……..kaato pe chalk e milenge saaye bahaar ke……….”

And the Topper is...........!!!!!!!

“Can it be said that toppers have good memory but less intelligence……???

I asked in one of the personality development sessions………!!!!!!!!!

My question evolved out of the third eye that I have which prompts me to ask questions to myself whenever I meet a topper…………..specifically class-toppers………….

Though, toppers seem to me as someone who stands for everything in general but nothing in particular………it simply means, they lack sociability, power to communicate efficiently and are less participative as compared to what an average student is……….

To me, being a versatile 70%iler is far better than a monotonous 90%iler……….because being multi-skilled is the ability which even toppers envy……….!!!!!!!!

I admire them for their discipline, their work-ethics yet some part of me tells me………….this is not the one I want to be…………

Well, I don’t compare myself with them, because I never wanted to be them………….I always wanted to be what I am……….

And the answer to my question was………….yes, you are exactly right……..!!!!!!!!

Because……

Even toppers are managed by people who themselves were not toppers.......but they were intelligent........!!!!!!!

Average package kitna hai....?????

{Deciding about an Institute and the talks about average package and Return on Investment is highly prevalent. You gather a lot of states, try to get the khufia information about the  package that was being offered and the prospects of being placed when you arrive to the deciding semester………..well amidst all that hurly-burly, we forget to evaluate one thing……..}

Here is a story which will suffice the motto……….

In ancient times, there lived a student who was learning the art of archery from a well-known master who was highly recognized as the best in the business. One day the student asked the master:

If I practice for 3 hours a day, in how much time I will perfect this art?”

The master replied: “3 months”

Student again asked “If I practice for 5 hours a day, then how much time will it take?”

The master replied “5 months”

Student again asked “If I practice for 8 hours a day, then?”

Master again replied “8 months”

The student continued asking the same question increasing the no.of hours he will practice daily to perfect the art and the Master replied in the same manner, increasing the no. of months in the same proportion to his increment in time.

Annoyingly the student asked “As I increase the daily hours of practice, why there is a proportionate increase in the no. of days that will take me to learn this art as it must take less time than before?”

The master gave him a gentle smile and said:

“If your one eye is on the destination, how you will be able to master the art with only one eye”.

Well, for most of us who highly focus on destinations (return on investment in education) it is necessary to concentrate on the journey of becoming an engineer or a manager as……………

“If you have pursued the journey passionately, destinations will always be better”

So from the next time, be afraid to ask “Average package kitna h…….?

Lets begin the Journey........!!!!!!

{As I look back to those days when I was a Junior, a thought strikes my mind that if I would have communicated with my seniors in a proper manner, I could have been a better student. The grades are still high, but when I look myself in the mirror of Finance, I still lag behind……….Well………If’s, But’s, Could, Would will remain……….but what needs to be done right now is to give few pieces of advice to juniors……..}

“Learn to manage yourself, your life and your belongings………..”

Those were the initial advisory words of my father when I get into a Management course…………

Well, over the course of time what I have observed is that Managers, in pursuit of managing others’ life, end up on creating a mess of their own…………..They are pressurized to give the best investment advice to the client, yet their own finances don’t find any significant investment avenues……….. they are supposed to remember deadlines, yet they don’t remember the birthdates’ of their special ones’………………..

And here lies the first lesson of management………..If you are seriously here for getting the output of the sum you are putting in, you must focus on managing your own life, must dress up like a professional which begets a professional attitude and should focus on improving your own lifestyle…….

Human psychology or human brain responds to surrounding an individual have………the kind of lifestyle a person have and the quality of company a person keeps with him…………..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although the path to self-management requires many compromises and sacrifices, it will surely help you in long run……….make a good competitive company…….enlighten the ambiance surrounding you by good and positive thoughts……..run for quality…….marks and package will take care of itself……………..

And the last but not the least advice from me……..

“Don’t ever condemn IMS in front of anyone……….”

Because……….When you make a choice, you choose its consequences also……………..!!!!!!!!!

Ye dosti hum bhi to todenge......!!!!!!

Friendship is a wonderful beginning………….

Both of them met through a common friend but as they conversed more and more, their friendship grew in leaps and bounds………..

Both of them were entangled in their own quagmires yet they were happy to be with each other……….searching for a moment of relief which can take them away from the complicities life offers………….they were the ones who were just friends, but shared every hidden secret that lies beneath them………

Helping each other became their characteristics……….laughing in one’s own cocoon became their prerogative……….sitting for long hours in a cafĂ© and in a study room became their habit……….

Because they were not best friends………..they were friends with best feelings……….!!!!!!!!

As the time passed by, it bolstered to a great extent……….and was at a level of maturity where although they have their own targets and personal aspirations…………it soon became collective to them………..

And then, a tide came and blown away everything…………

A slight misunderstanding added by the agony of each other’s ego coming to their way which once pushed the resumption yet the friendship never resumed……

One was ready to resolve while another was rigid in nature……….one was ready to hear the bitter words and take things back to normalcy……..other wasn’t ready to shed the ego which is a useless virtue to possess in these times……….

As the time passed, two poles became apart from each other……….and in those times…….the tide took away everything……..they were no more friends……….

Because they have become good actors now……….pretension is the last thing they can do………!!!!!!!!

Friendship is also about bitter endings……………

Well, the above case might not be a case of true friendship but my personal experiences states that……….

“ Friendship is not about how steady the boat sails, it’s about how it balances and bounce back once again when it starts to sink…………..”
